Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Word of God. The Holy Spirit directed men of God to write the words of God. We also believe that God miraculously preserved his word throughout history to present day. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and “God breathed” and, therefore are the final authority for faith and life and practice in the local church. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. Torrington Baptist Tabernacle uses the King James version for all their preaching and teaching.

Inspiration: II Peter 1:19-21; II Timothy 3:16; I Peter 1:23-25; Matthew 4:4; I Cor. 2:13

Authority: I Thessalonians 2:13; I Peter 1:23-25; Psalm 119:89

Preservation: Psalms 12:6-8; I Peter 1:23-25; Luke 21:33; Isaiah 40:8; Psalms 40:8; Psalms 119:89

The Trinity

We believe there is one God that exists in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; co-equal in power. These three are one but are distinct in their roles. The attributes of God are as follows: omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience, and immutability.

Distinction of the Trinity: Matthew 3:16, Matthew 28:19, Gen.1:26; I John 5:7

Unity: John 4:24

Intangible Spirit: John 4:24

Omnipresence: Psalm 139:7

Omniscience: Proverbs 15:3

Omnipotent: Jeremiah 32:17

Jesus

We believe that Jesus is God, that He became fully man without ceasing to be God. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, He lived a sinless life, yet not without temptation. Our redemption is made possible by his sacrificial death and shed blood on the cross. After his death, he was buried and rose again on the third day as he said.

Fully God: John 1:1-2, John 10:30

Fully Man: Phil. 2:5-8; Isaiah 7:14

Equal with God: Phil. 2:5-8; John 10:30; Isaiah 9:6

Conception: Luke 1:35

Virgin birth: Isaiah 7:14; Gal. 4:4-5; Matthew 1:23

Purpose of death: Romans 3:24-25, John 3:16

Resurrection: I Cor. 15:4

Knew no sin: II Cor. 5:21, Hebrews 4:15

Mankind

We believe God created man in His image. Man is made up of body, soul, and spirit. We believe man was perfectly made, but inherited a sin nature because of the fall of Adam. Because of this sin nature man is unable to remedy his lost condition outside of the saving work of Jesus Christ.

Created in the image of God: Genesis 1:26-27;

Fall and Curse of Man: Genesis 3

Sinful nature: Romans 3:10; Romans 3:23

Inability of Man: John 5:33-40

Salvation

We believe in salvation by faith in the person and finished work of Jesus Christ and His shed blood. By God’s grace alone we are saved and not of any work of man. We believe in the free will of man to choose or reject God’s plan of salvation. However, in doing so requires a repentance from their own way to fully accepting God’s free gift of salvation. We believe that once a man is saved he is sealed by the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Salvation by Faith: Eph. 2:8-9

Through Grace: Eph. 2:8-9

Not of works: Eph. 2:8-9

Necessity of the blood: Mt. 26:28

Repentance: Acts 20:21

Eternal security: Eph. 4:30
